The Maoist Centre has announced that its Central Committee meeting will begin on September 25. The decision was made during a meeting of the party’s office bearers held on Sunday.
According to Chief Secretary Ganeshman Pun, the exact venue and time of the meeting will be confirmed later.
At Sunday’s meeting, party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ proposed holding a special general convention in December and dissolving all party committees from the central to the local level. He argued that the current political situation requires electing a fresh leadership.
“The situation is special. Let’s hold a special general convention and elect a new leadership,” Prachanda said during the discussion, which lasted about an hour.
The office bearers’ meeting has decided to forward Prachanda’s proposal to the Central Committee for endorsement. If approved, all existing party structures will be dissolved, and a General Convention Organizing Committee will be formed to prepare for the December convention.
Prachanda also called for an emergency Central Committee meeting within a week to formally initiate the process.
