The CPN (Maoist Centre) has made a significant decision allowing the party to add as many central committee members as it wants. This change was made in the office-bearers’ meeting held on Jestha 12 (May 25, 2024). Until now, the party had a rule that only 10% of the existing central committee members could be added during party unification or adjustment. However, that rule has now been suspended.

The Maoist Centre currently has 408 central committee members. Under the previous rule, only about 40 more could be added. But after the recent decision, there is no longer any limit, and the party leadership can include as many new members as they like.

In a circular sent to central committee members on Jestha 19, General Secretary Dev Gurung stated that the provision related to the 10% limit has been temporarily deactivated. He said this move was necessary to address current political needs like unification, adjustment, and internal polarization. Gurung also mentioned that the decision will be reviewed in the upcoming central committee meeting and during the next general convention.

Despite adding members regularly, the Maoist Centre has not updated the names of new central committee members on its official website. As a result, the party itself is unsure about the exact number of central committee members at present.

Earlier, during the statute convention held in Falgun 2080 (February/March 2024), the party had proposed a smaller 99-member central committee. However, the current large committee will remain in place until the next general convention. According to the party’s timeline, the central committee meeting will be held in Asar (July 2025) and the general convention will take place in Mangsir (November/December 2025).
