The CPN (Unified Socialist), led by Madhav Kumar Nepal, and the CPN Unity National Campaign, led by Bamdev Gautam, have agreed to unite both political parties.
Both leaders signed a written agreement on Friday at the Unified Socialist’s central office in Aloknagar, Kathmandu. According to party officials, this is an initial agreement to merge, and further discussions will continue regarding other matters.
The formal announcement of the unification is planned for Shrawn 2 (July 18).
The agreement mentions that the two sides share common ground in terms of ideology, principles, programs, and political direction. It also states that, considering the current situation of Nepal’s communist movement, it is necessary to come together under one banner. As a result, Gautam’s group will now join the Unified Socialist party.
