The minimum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley increased by about 2 degrees Celsius compared to the previous day, according to today’s early reading on January 15.

The Weather Forecasting Division said that Kathmandu’s minimum temperature was 4.3°C at 5:45 am on Thursday. At the same time on Wednesday, it was 2.7°C. However, by 8:45 am on Wednesday, the temperature dropped further to 2.3°C, which was recorded as the day’s minimum.

The Division measures minimum and maximum temperatures every day in different parts of the country, including Kathmandu. The minimum temperature is officially recorded at 8:45 am, while the maximum temperature is recorded at 5:45 pm. The lowest temperature of the day is taken as the minimum, and the highest as the maximum.

Weather experts say cloud cover strongly affects temperature. When the sky stays cloudy at night, heat is trapped and the morning temperature remains higher. If the sky is clear, heat escapes more easily, making mornings colder.

During the day, cloudy weather blocks sunlight, keeping the temperature lower and the weather cooler. On clear days, more sunlight reaches the ground, making daytime temperatures warmer.
