India’s active COVID-19 case count has risen to 7,121 after 306 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours, according to the latest update from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Six deaths were recorded during the same period, three from Kerala, two from Karnataka, and one from Maharashtra. Among those who died, one was a 43-year-old with a weak immune system, while the others were elderly individuals with existing health problems.

Kerala continues to report the highest number of active cases with 2,223 currently infected and 170 new cases in a single day. Gujarat reported 114 new infections, raising its total active cases to 1,223, and Delhi followed with 757 active cases. Health experts believe this rise is due to new variants such as LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and NB.1.8.1. In response to the uptick, the central government has issued advisories to all states and union territories to remain alert and prepared.

Medical experts have advised against launching a mass booster vaccination drive at this stage. They recommend focusing on high-risk groups, including the elderly and those with chronic illnesses, due to the population’s existing hybrid immunity from previous infections and vaccines. People are urged to follow safety measures such as wearing masks, washing hands regularly, and avoiding crowded places. Doctors also stress the importance of not confusing COVID-19 with seasonal fevers, as symptoms like fatigue and cough may overlap.
