Nepal Rastra Bank has given final approval for the merger of two leading digital wallets, IME Pay and Khalti, marking the first-ever merger in Nepal’s digital payment sector. The newly unified company will operate under the name IME Khalti Limited, with its registered office in Panipokhari, Kathmandu. Despite the merger, the mobile app will continue to run under the Khalti brand. With over five million verified users and the highest paid-up capital among digital wallets, Khalti is now positioned to become Nepal’s largest and most trusted digital payment platform.

The merger aims to expand digital payment services into rural areas and strengthen the country’s fintech ecosystem. Over a three-month transition period, both IME Pay and Khalti apps will continue operating while users, balances, and reward points are merged. IME Pay users will be migrated to Khalti with their consent, and new users can directly download the Khalti app to access all integrated features. The app will combine services and benefits from both platforms, offering a more seamless and user-friendly experience.

The unified platform also plans to introduce enhanced financial services such as remittance, virtual banking, Visa cards, and credit access through the Khalti app. The company believes this merger will help reduce cash transactions, increase transparency, and promote financial inclusion across both urban and rural areas. With strong support from Nepal Rastra Bank, stakeholders, and users, IME Khalti Limited aims to lead the way in building a more efficient and accessible digital economy in Nepal.
