Government spokesperson and Communication Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung said on Sunday that the Home Minister does not need to resign over the recent visit visa controversy.

Speaking at a press meet in Singha Durbar, Gurung explained that no clear evidence has been found against the Home Minister, and no official investigation has started. He said the minister should be given a chance to explain himself in Parliament, and added that political discussions are ongoing to resolve the matter soon.

Gurung also shared updates on other decisions made by the Cabinet on June 2. One Nepal Army Major has been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, and ten Lieutenant Colonels have been transferred. The resignation of one Lieutenant Colonel was also accepted.

In other updates, the Cabinet approved the visit of Lalitpur Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan to China from June 11 to 13 for a conference. Similarly, the Finance Secretary was allowed to attend the OPEC Fund Development Forum in Austria on June 17.

Lastly, Minister Gurung said the government is committed to making the Press Council more inclusive, though progress has been slow due to various challenges.
