The Ministry of Health and Population has started preparations to include all government employees in the health insurance program.
Both the government's newly announced policy and budget mention bringing civil servants and employees from organized sectors under health insurance, as per the provisions in the Health Insurance Act, 2074.
Health Minister Pradeep Poudel has begun internal preparations to implement this plan. He has decided to coordinate with all ministries, commissions, departments, and even provincial governments to move the process forward.
For local levels, the ministry will work through the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration.
The plan is to include not just civil servants but also employees working in the organized private sector in the insurance scheme. The Ministry of Health is moving forward by sending official letters and making necessary arrangements.
According to Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, the preparations are in progress.
Dr. Raghuraj Kafle, Executive Director of the Health Insurance Board, said that implementing the provisions already mentioned in the Act would help make the health insurance program more effective. He added that if all civil servants are included, the insurance system will become much more organized.
