Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has pledged that Nepal will never again witness a situation where a young person is shot by the state for raising questions, referring to the Bhadra 23 incident.
Speaking at a pledge assembly in Janakpurdham, he said youths will be free to question and criticize without fear, and no one will need to resort to burning Singha Durbar. He promised to create a system where even the Prime Minister would remain free from corruption scandals.
Thapa also vowed to end everyday corruption, such as paying bribes for licenses, facing false charges, or traveling to Kathmandu with files for basic services. He stressed that the law will no longer favor the powerful.
He committed that every Congress member, from the central leadership to ward representatives, will uphold the party’s pledge for five years, whether in government or opposition. He also promised action against cooperative fraudsters, loan sharks, and exploitative microfinance operators, along with the creation of alternative financial systems in Madhesh.
