In a program organized by the Meenkumari Rana Foundation in Bhaktapur on Sunday, Nepali Congress leader Gagan Kumar Thapa stressed that the constitution’s fundamental principles should remain unchanged and urged his party to seize the current opportunities for the nation's progress.

Thapa mentioned that while some parts of the constitution can be changed to meet the needs of the country, the basic principles should not be altered. He warned that discussions about new systems or alternatives could end up wasting another ten years, which would not be good for the nation. According to him, elections happen every five years, and it is natural for political parties to win and lose. He said that everyone should accept the results of elections and understand that this is part of the democratic process.

Thapa also pointed out that being in a position of power, like a leader, minister, or prime minister, is not the most important thing. What matters most is knowing when it’s time to change leadership for the betterment of the country. He expressed confidence that if Nepali Congress had the chance, they could do a better job of running the country than the current prime minister. Thapa urged his party not to wait for the 84 elections to make a move, but instead, use the current opportunity to work for the progress of the country and the welfare of its people.
