The Government of Nepal has confirmed the death of a Nepali citizen in the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India, identifying the victim as Sudip Neupane (26) from Butwal-11, Kalikanagar, Rupandehi.
Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba shared the heartbreaking news on Wednesday, expressing deep sorrow over the loss and offering heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the death of Nepali citizen Sudip Neupane in the terrorist attack. I pay my heartfelt tributes and wish his injured mother a speedy recovery,” Rana posted on social media.
According to reports, Sudip was fatally shot while walking along a road when gunmen suddenly opened fire. His mother, Rima Neupane, was also injured during the incident and is currently receiving treatment.
Sudip was visiting Kashmir with his mother, sister Sushma, and brother-in-law Ujjwal Kafle. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in touch with Indian authorities and is working closely to receive further details and assist the affected family.
Earlier, Minister Rana stated that the government was working to verify reports of Nepali casualties in the attack. She had condemned the act as "senseless violence" and expressed Nepal’s solidarity with India during this time of grief.
“The Government of Nepal is shocked and saddened by the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam,” her statement said, calling it a tragic loss of innocent lives.
According to Indian media, the attack took place on Tuesday afternoon and claimed 26 lives, with 10 others injured, including Neupane and his family members.
