Elon Musk has admitted he went "too far" in his social media attacks on US President Donald Trump. The billionaire shared his regret in a post on X, the platform he owns, after a series of heated exchanges with Trump over political disagreements. Their fallout began when Musk criticized Trump's tax bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination,” and stepped down from his White House advisory role.
Trump, in a recent interview with the New York Post, said he was disappointed by Musk’s behaviour but held “no hard feelings” and even hinted at a possible reconciliation. He added that Musk likely feels bad about the remarks. Musk had previously urged Americans to oppose the tax bill, claiming, without proof that it could cause a recession later in the year.
At one point, Musk even accused Trump of being linked to Jeffrey Epstein through unreleased files, a claim the White House dismissed. Trump hit back, saying Musk had “lost his mind” and threatened to cancel $38 billion worth of federal contracts with Musk’s companies, including SpaceX. Musk has since deleted many of his posts, including one calling for Trump's impeachment.
Despite the tension, there are growing calls, especially from Republicans, for the two influential figures to make peace. While Vice President JD Vance expressed hope for Musk's return to Trump’s circle, former adviser Steve Bannon harshly suggested Musk be deported. The feud came shortly after Musk’s brief 129-day stint leading a government department aimed at increasing efficiency.
