Madhesh Provincial Assembly Deputy Speaker Babita Kumari Raut Ishwar has contested the Speaker’s decision to dismiss five lawmakers for repeated absenteeism.
On Thursday, Speaker Ramchandra Mandal issued a notice declaring the seats of Urmila Devi Singh (Nagarik Unmukti Party), Manish Kumar Suman and Sanjay Kumar Yadav (Jaspa), Singhashan S.A. Kalwar, and Sharda Shankar Prasad Kalwar vacant, citing their absence from ten consecutive assembly sessions.
However, Deputy Speaker Raut argued that the lawmakers were present during the confidence vote meeting on Kartik 22, and attendance records, including video evidence, support their presence. She claimed the Speaker’s action was “contrary to evidence and driven by impulse,” rendering the dismissal invalid.
