Nepal has recorded more than 5,000 dengue infections since the beginning of 2025, with cases now confirmed in all 75 districts, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD).
As of the latest update, 5,196 cases have been reported, including 294 new infections in the past week alone. Gandaki Province leads with 1,327 cases, followed by Bagmati (1,191), Lumbini (911), Koshi (737), Sudurpaschim (622), Karnali (296), and Madhesh (112).
Officials say the reported figures only reflect cases logged in the government system and may represent a fraction of the true scale of infections.
Compared to last year, the overall number of cases has declined, and no single area has been identified as a major hotspot this season.
However, health experts caution that the risk could rise during the upcoming Dashain festival, when increased travel may help the virus spread more widely.
Dengue is transmitted by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. Once infected, the mosquito, and even its offspring, can carry and pass on the virus to humans.
