In the case of the purchase of wide-body aircraft by Nepal Airlines Corporation, British businessman of Nepali origin, Deepak Sharma, has been found guilty. He has been convicted of violating the provisions of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) related to bribery.
According to information published on the FCPA website, Sharma played a broker's role in the purchase and sale of two 'A330-200' wide-body aircraft by the corporation. Sharma had bribed Nepali officials to secure the contract for selling the aircraft to the corporation.
The Corporation had purchased two wide-body aircraft from the American company AAR Corporation, for which it paid a total of NPR 2.4 billion.
