Member of the National Assembly, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, has criticized the budget for the fiscal year 2082/83 (2025/26), saying it fails to meet the country’s national needs.

Speaking during a discussion in the National Assembly, Shrestha said the budget is not satisfactory and lacks clear vision. He claimed the budget is just administrative and does not address the current needs of the people.

He added that the budget does not reflect the essence of the constitution and leans more toward promoting a market-based economy instead of building a self-reliant one. According to him, the budget has failed to give priority to important sectors like agriculture, tourism, education, and health.

Shrestha also stressed the need to increase the government's capacity to implement capital expenditure and to address the issue of bad loans. He expressed disappointment that the budget did not focus on social justice, good governance, and long-term prosperity.
