Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has criticized the opposition for blocking Parliament over Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s resignation issue, calling it undemocratic and unnecessary.
Speaking at the UML parliamentary party meeting in Baneshwor, PM Oli said regular parliamentary activities will resume from Tuesday. He mentioned that he tried to talk to opposition leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, but Dahal deliberately avoided contact, showing unwillingness for dialogue. Oli emphasized that Parliament cannot be shut down over minor or baseless issues, especially when there is no complaint or investigation against the Home Minister.
He also criticized political behavior where groups protest in the streets and the opposition simultaneously blocks Parliament, saying such actions harm democracy.
As Nepal is at a serious turning point with the national budget presented, PM Oli urged MPs to focus on constructive discussion. He rejected talks about restoring monarchy, calling it outdated and irrelevant, and said leadership should come from elected representatives, not royal birth.
Oli warned against anarchy and dissatisfaction being used to destabilize the country, stating that Nepal’s solution lies in democracy, not in chaos like seen in countries such as Sri Lanka or Bangladesh. He added that some are frustrated because they lost power and now try to undermine the government, but the current leadership is focused on development and good governance.
