Shyam Bahadur Khadka, the Minister for Water Supply, Energy, and Irrigation in Bagmati Province, resigned from his post today.
He submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama. His decision comes after a no-confidence motion was filed against CM Lama by members of the Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party. The motion had support from a majority of NC members.
This is the latest in a series of resignations. Last Friday, four other NC ministers, Suraj Chandra Lamichhane (Internal Affairs and Law), Bimal Thakuri (Culture and Tourism), Madhu Kumar Shrestha (Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation), and Min Krishna Maharjan (Youth and Sports) had already stepped down. Chief Minister Lama then officially removed them from their posts the same day.
The political situation in Bagmati Province remains tense as party members push for leadership changes.
