A large forest fire in Manitoba, Canada, has gone out of control, forcing thousands of people to leave their homes. Due to the seriousness of the situation, local authorities have declared a state of emergency. The Canadian army has also been called in to help. Prime Minister Mark Carney has approved the army’s involvement.
Manitoba’s Premier, Wab Kinew, said this is the largest evacuation operation in the province’s history. Around 17,000 people have been forced to move because of the wildfire.
According to media reports, the fire started near the forest close to the city of Flin Flon. It has become very dangerous, and about 5,000 people from the city have been told to leave. The mayor said the fire is spreading very fast, and everyone has been ordered to evacuate the city by midnight.
Another wildfire has also started in the Saskatchewan area of Manitoba and is spreading quickly. About 1,200 people there have also been moved to safety.
So far, there are 22 wildfires burning in Manitoba. Fire departments from across Canada are helping to control the fire. On Sunday, one firefighter was seriously injured while fighting the blaze.
This year alone, there have already been 102 wildfire incidents in Manitoba, which is much higher than average. In Canada, wildfire season usually lasts from May to September.
