Two people lost their lives during a pro-monarchy demonstration led by Durga Prasai and Nawaraj Subedi in Tinkune, Kathmandu, on Friday.
Sabin Maharjan (29) from Kirtipur was shot in the chest during a clash with police at the rally organized under the “Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture and Citizens’ Protection Campaign”. He collapsed at the scene and was rushed to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital at 3:55 PM where doctors declared him dead at 4 PM. His body remains at the hospital for a postmortem examination.
In another tragic incident, journalist Suresh Rajak, a cameraman for Avenues Television, died after being trapped in a house set on fire by protesters. Demonstrators, believing police officers were inside, attacked and burned the building. Rajak’s body was found severely burned and unrecognizable.
Authorities have launched an investigation, and statements are being recorded. Meanwhile, protesters also set fire to the Marble House in Tinkune after pelting it with stones and breaking its windows.
