At least four people were killed in a Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv overnight, according to Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko. He said the strikes hit residential areas, hospitals, and sports facilities, BBC reported.
In one of the hardest-hit areas, Shevchenkivskyi district, part of a high-rise apartment building was completely destroyed. Some people are still believed to be trapped under the rubble.
In the wider Kyiv region, a woman was killed and two others injured, said regional head Mykola Kalashnyk.
Ukraine's emergency services reported that 13 people, including two children and a pregnant woman, were injured in Kyiv. Videos showed emergency crews helping shocked residents evacuate a burning high-rise.
Several fires broke out across the city, and even a metro station entrance was damaged. Many residents spent the night taking shelter underground.
Russia has not commented on the attack. In recent weeks, it has increased airstrikes on Kyiv and other cities.
Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
