President Ram Chandra Poudel has officially started the Gyalpo Losar celebrations, marking the New Year Shying Mo Dul Lo 2152 for the Sherpa and other Himalayan Indigenous communities.

The event took place today at Shital Niwas, the Presidential Residence, where President Poudel inaugurated the festival by cutting Femar, a traditional Sherpa dish.

Speaking at the event, President Poudel said that festivals like Gyalpo Losar help bring Nepal’s diverse communities closer together, fostering harmony, tolerance, and brotherhood while strengthening national unity.

He emphasized that Nepal is a country rich in ethnic, linguistic, cultural, and religious diversity, with different communities having their own unique traditions and customs. He also highlighted the important role of the Sherpa and other himalayan indigenous groups in preserving and promoting the language, religion, art, and culture of the Himalayan region. Their contributions to tourism and various professions have also helped strengthen Nepal’s economy.

During the event, Khenpo Lama Acharya shared insights about Losar, and there were performances of songs related to Losar and Syabru dance.
