An Indian climber, Subrata Ghosh from West Bengal, has died while descending from the summit of Sagarmatha, according to his expedition team. The 45-year-old was part of the Mountaineering Association of Krishnanagar–Snowy Everest Expedition 2025.

Bodhraj Bhandari, managing director of Snowy Horizon Treks, confirmed that Ghosh lost his life just below the Hillary Step, a challenging section near the summit. Ghosh had reached the top of Everest around 2 pm with his guide, but on the way down, he became extremely tired and showed symptoms of altitude sickness. His guide, Champal Tamang, reported that Ghosh refused to move further during the descent.

Champal managed to return to Camp IV late at night and informed the team about the incident the next morning. Efforts are underway to retrieve Ghosh’s body and bring it back to the base camp.
