India has strongly denied Pakistan’s accusation that it was behind a recent suicide bombing in North Waziristan, calling the claim baseless and made in contempt. The Ministry of External Affairs said Pakistan’s military statement blaming India for the June 28 attack is completely unfounded.
The attack, one of the deadliest in the region in recent times, killed at least 14 soldiers and injured 25 others, including civilians and children. The blast hit a military vehicle in Khadi village during a curfew meant to allow military movement. According to an initial probe, around 800 kg of explosives were used, damaging nearby homes.
Pakistan's military reported 13 soldiers dead and three civilians injured, including a woman and two children. However, it presented no evidence to support its claim that India was involved.
A militant group, the Hafiz Gul Bahadur faction of the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the bombing. The group is known to operate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a region often targeted by militants.
Pakistan often accuses Afghanistan of providing shelter to these groups, but Kabul denies such allegations.
Experts warn that groups like Hafiz Gul Bahadur are growing more dangerous and influential, even compared to the broader Pakistani Taliban network, which seeks to overthrow Pakistan’s government and establish strict Islamic rule.
