Govt Appoints Mahesh Thapa, Lila Devi Gadtaula to Lead Justice Commissions

The government has appointed Mahesh Thapa as Chairperson of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and Lila Devi Gadtaula as Chairperson of the Commission for the Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP), despite objections from victims' groups. 

The Cabinet made the appointments on Wednesday based on a proposal from the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. A total of 10 officials, including chairpersons and members, have been appointed to the two commissions. TRC members are Achyut Prasad Bhandari, Tika Prasad Dhakal, Padam Bahadur Shahi, and Kumari Kaushalya Ojha. CIEDP members are Gopal Nath Yogi, Agni Prasad Thapaliya, Shreejana Pokharel and Binita Nepali. The appointments were based on recommendations from a committee formed under former Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra. The officials will have a four-year term.
