CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has said that the national vision of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali” is rooted in Nepal’s ancient civilization and the philosophical teachings of the Vedas.
Speaking at a religious programme, Oli described Nepal as a nation with a 5,000-year-old civilizational legacy, claiming that its traditions of knowledge and science once led the world. He said the Vedic mantra “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah”, wishing happiness and wellbeing for all forms the foundation of the country’s modern development vision.
Oli clarified the difference between the concepts of a “Hindu nation” and the “Sanatan tradition,” stating that Sanatan represents Nepal’s original civilization and shared cultural heritage. He argued that the term “Hindu nation” is relatively recent, while Sanatan values belong to all Nepalis irrespective of faith.
Highlighting ancient contributions to science, Oli claimed that the origins of surgery began on Nepali soil, referring to sages Vishwamitra and Sushruta. He described Nepal as a land of gods, penance, and knowledge, and expressed his resolve to restore the country’s historical pride.
Oli also said the slogan “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali” reflects the same ideals found in the Vedas, peace, prosperity, and a life free from fear and suffering.
Participating in the programme as a candidate, Oli said he remained mindful of the election code of conduct and clarified that his presence was not for campaigning but to reaffirm his commitment to nation-building.
