Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed the Sagarmatha Sambaad Secretariat to make necessary preparations for a successful Sagarmatha Sambaad, scheduled to take place in Kathmandu from May 16 to May 18.

He issued this directive while visiting the secretariat established at the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Friday.

PM Oli stressed that the event's core message should be effectively conveyed alongside efficient management to project a strong impression in the international community, his Secretariat stated in a press note.

The government has formed a steering committee under PM Oli, with Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba as its chairperson and Forest and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri as the co-chairperson of the management committee for the success of the global event along with the Sambad secretariat headed by the Secretary of the OPMCM.

The government has extended invitations to the heads of State and Government from around the world, including India and China, as special guests for the event that aims to draw the attention of the international community toward the adverse impact of climate change in the Himalayas.

Originally planned during the second premiership of Oli (February 2018–August 2021), the event had to be postponed owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year’s dialogue is themed ‘Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity’.
