The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has launched a countrywide assessment of land owned by community schools and learning centers following reports of misuse in some districts. Minister Mahabir Pun has directed the Center for Education and Human Resource Development to collect information on land ownership, tenure status, and related disputes.
This audit is part of broader efforts to strengthen accountability in public institutions. With 73% of Nepal’s 35,447 schools being community-run, safeguarding these lands is crucial to ensure resources benefit students and local communities.
Meanwhile, the government is also focusing on expanding digital learning initiatives to improve access to quality education nationwide.
