Madhes Province is preparing to administer the oath of office to newly appointed Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav today, with arrangements for the ceremony already completed, according to the CM’s office.
Yadav, the Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader, was appointed Chief Minister on Mangsir 14 with the support of 77 provincial assembly members from a seven-party alliance. Following his swearing-in, he is expected to form a small cabinet later today.
His appointment comes after former Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav of the UML resigned when he was unable to secure a vote of confidence within the 24-hour deadline set by the Supreme Court.
The seven-party alliance, including JSP Nepal, Janamat Party, Maoist Centre (then), LOSPA, and Unified Socialist (then) subsequently backed Congress leader Krishna Prasad Yadav to form the new government.
