Countries across the globe are observing International Civil Aviation Day today, with this year’s theme focusing on “Safe Skies.” The day is celebrated primarily by member states of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
First introduced in 1994 on ICAO’s 50th anniversary and officially recognized by the UN two years later, the day underscores the importance of international air travel in boosting social and economic development. It also reflects ICAO’s long-running efforts to expand a safe, reliable global aviation network.
ICAO noted that as nations work toward the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, aviation continues to play a crucial role in connecting people, supporting economies, and strengthening global cooperation.
