The ongoing protest by nurses demanding fair wages has officially ended after an agreement was reached with the government on Saturday. The deal was struck during a meeting held at the Ministry of Health and Population between ministry officials and representatives from the nursing sector.

According to ministry spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, the nurses have agreed to withdraw all protest programs starting Sunday. He said private medical colleges and large private hospitals have agreed to pay a minimum monthly salary of Rs. 34,730, equivalent to the government’s fifth-level scale, starting from the month of Kartik.

“Private hospitals will pay at least 80 percent of that salary for now, and within a month, after hospital classification is completed, they will match the full government rate,” Dr. Budhathoki added.

A task force formed earlier to study the issue will submit its report within a month, after which all hospitals will be required to implement full salary payments as per government standards.

Today’s meeting was attended by Health Minister Dr. Sudha Sharma Gautam, Health Secretary Dr. Vikas Devkota, spokesperson Dr. Budhathoki, and officials from the Nursing Association and private medical colleges.
